MISES GURUSARNA I VECKAN (alltid tankestimulerande och inspirerande)

Väldigt trevlig läsning i dagens PK-klimat:

Today's tariff policy relies on the fanciful idea that politicians can pull the right levers to make the economy more efficient or more just. As always, the idea is based on fantasy.

The depreciation of the yuan since 2014 is more of a response to market movements than a planned devaluation to gain competitiveness illegitimately.

Central banks pretend all these benefits come at no cost to anyone. Unfortunately, we all ultimately pay the price.

We often hear that various government policies are justified because "the people want" this or "we want" that. This belief assumes that dissenting minorities don't matter at all. "We want" is usually nothing more than rank majoritarianism.

For the Pentagon, happy days are here again. With a budget of more than $1.4 trillion for the next two years, the department is riding high as it attempts to set the stage for yet more spending increases in the years to come. ¨

There are two clear and present dangers to liberty. One is known as the Left, and the other is the Right. They seek to use government to mold society into a form they seek, rather than the form that liberty achieves if society is left on its own.

Some people — including Donald Trump — think the dollar is too strong, and many propose the creation of a new version of the Plaza Accord, i.e., a multilateral agreement that includes coordinated intervention in foreign exchange markets.

Anti-capitalist promoters of "climate justice" ignore all of the evidence of capitalism’s benefits staring us in the face.

Market prices reveal critical information about sellers, buyers, and market demand. But government interference in markets substitutes a fake version of reality that leads to impoverishment.

State intervention and a crushing fiscal policy made the whole empire groan under the yoke; more than once, both poor men and rich prayed that the barbarians would deliver them from it.

It is frequently allege that, under capitalism, people aren’t paid what they are worth to employers. But the commonly-drawn implication that state intervention will improve things is false.

"The art of economics consists of looking not merely at the immediate but at the longer effects of any act or policy; it consists in tracing the consequences of that policy not merely for one group but for all groups."

In The Free Market and Its Enemies, Mises wrote, “Even though you know everything about the past, you know nothing about the future.” This explains that the timeframe and economic constraints at work are vital to the expression of entrepreneurial talents.
