An economic system is a natural thing. Like all natural things, it obeys laws that were never proposed by a legislature and that cannot be repealed by a majority vote.
Nature does not disappear just because you act like a fool. Nor does truth cease to exist because you deny it. Markets – based on win-win exchanges – tell the truth. They don´t set prices, they discover them. They provide new information.
If you want a real catastrophe, you need violence – to force people to do what they otherwise would not and prevent them from discovering the truth or correcting errors. That is you need government.
None of the great disasters of the 20th century was the product of win-win deals. None were the result of chasing profits. None came from having to little government or doing too little to enhance the ”common good.” Instead everyone was the product of state power directed by central planners on behalf of the common good.
Trade happens between individuals not between governments.
It was ”us” whoever we were… against ”them” – whoever they were.
The truly civilized man is always skeptical and tolerant. His culture is based on ”I am not too sure.” ”I am not too sure” would eliminate many of the worlds myth-driven, self-inflicted ills – pointless wars, dump arguments etc. The whole system of modern public policy is built on false knowledge and unwarranted confidence.
